A key part of my painting style is the detailed patterns left behind by the process of water drying. Cracks or texture on wood and indentations in glass get mimiced by the sediment left behind.
This is the unpredictablility factor, this level of chaos causes an amount of detail that pretty much does the work for me in this aspect.

Detail is key

Surface tension is an effect within liquid which causes the surface to behave like an elastic sheet. This effect allows insects such as the water strider to walk on water, as well as other small objects to float on the surface.
When this surface tension is disrupted, the liquid will reforms its elastic surface around the perimiter of the new object, reforming the tension that initially existed. When sediment (or pigment in this case) is present in liquid, it collects itself around the edge of the object, forming a high concentration around the perimiter. When dry, any nooks or crannies in the edge design will be seen in the dried liquid.
